Amicy explores its definition of “the mystery of what goes on behind the scenes of your social life” as a personification of an invisible escape room through scenarios of restriction, survival and struggle. Escape rooms are games, where players discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks to accomplish a specific goal in a time constraint. This understanding of escape rooms is a clear reflection of life as a puzzle game - unknown to whether these obstacles help or restrict us.
Exploring themes of confinement, vulnerability, human nature and social superstructures, the performers navigate the boundaries of life’s ‘rules’ typified by escape room obstacles, making direct parallels in society. Amicy physicalises how we have the control to abide or deny these rules and regulations but have no power to change them as we are restricted by a higher power. Ultimately, the work signifies ESCAPE.
